Erich Belan's 1979 Trans Am

Year: 1979; Model: Firebird Trans Am; Exterior: GM 11 (white); Interior: Deluxe black; Engine: originally 403 Olds, now a 455 ('73 block) with 6x-4 heads ported by Mike Voycey, SRP pistons, reconditioned and resized rods, crank only needed a polish, Performer RPM intake, custom grind Comp Cams .232 and .237 duration @.050", .481/.481" lift, 110 LSA; Hooker Super Comp headers with full stainless 2.5" mandrel exhaust: Mallory distributor, MSD 6AL; Q-jet rebuilt by Cliff Ruggles.

Usage: originally used daily during summer months, daily use has tapered off because of fuel consumption.

Floor pan has undergone treatment for rust using Por-15.

Future plans include: strip the trunk and apply Por-15 then topcoat properly. The car needs new paint, but that won't be in the budget next year. All the funds went into the engine this during 2003 to build it once and properly.

Vehicle is traction limited and has turned 13.3 @ 107 mph on street rubber.

Performance goal: mid 12s through tuning and adding sub frame connectors to eliminate twisting; adding drive line safety loop and obtain ET Streets for traction.
