Dan Mortenson's 1968 GTO Convertible

Dan's story: This is my 68 Convertible. I bought it in a junk yard in Seattle in 2000. Well things kind got out of control and what started as a restro weekend job turned into this: Originally we built the 455 with 7k3 heads, M21 4 speed, 12 bolt with 3:73 gearing. The frame was Powder coated frame. New body panels, fender doors full quarters floor etc were installed. It was nice, but... While cruising in Orlando, FL I got tired of all the Mustangs, Corvettes and rice rockets passing me on the Turnpike while I was doing 70 churning 3000 rpms. When I showed them what real American horsepower could do it was great until they passed me at 120...out of rpms. So, back to the drawing board. What provides the power today is a 462 with E-heads, Ross pistons, Eagle rods, Edelbrock RPM intake, modified Q-jet by Cliff Ruggles, 1.65 roller rockers, a Comp Cam XE284h cam, Hooker Super Comp headers and a Richmond 5 speed (3.27 first), hooked to 3.08 12 bolt rear. The car has four wheel disc brakes too. Today, when I cruise at 70 at about 1900 rpms and the wrong person passes me they better be able to top 120+ mph in a real hurry.

I drive the car as much as possible but only in good weather.
